Bridled Tern

Yesterday it was off to Northumberland where we eventually connected with the mega Bridled Tern at Cresswell. Interestingly we were at the very same sight a couple of years ago to see a Greater Yellowlegs. Other decent birds included an adult Little Gull, close views of Arctic, Common and Sandwich Terns. We also saw a Cuckoo, Marsh Harrier, a group of Black tailed Godwit and pair of Stonechat. Looking towards the sea were massive numbers of terns, Puffin, Eider and an adult pale phase Arctic Skua

Four species of tern at Audenshaw

I braved the showers at Audenshaw this lunchtime hoping some of the reported 150 arctic terns seen last night were still around. There were around a dozen Arctic Terns on the water intermittently flying up and feeding or being mobbed by gulls. Also present was a winter plumage Little Gull, 2 Little Terns and a fine looking summer plumage Black Tern. I also saw a couple of Swifts which are the first I have seen this year. No photos as they were all distance and the weather was just too wet for me to bring out any gear!

Bridlington boat trip 9/10/11

had a brilliant day's birding on the skua/shearwater RSPB boat trip from Bridlinton. The highlights were awesome views of a pomarine skua as it hovered over the boat and a great skua. Also saw mediterranean gull (thanks for the pics Dave!), little gull plenty of red throated divers, common scoter and bried views of an arctic skua
